If you’ve completed the absolute beginner’s crochet class, or you’re comfortable working in chains and single or double crochet stitches, then it’s time to get your hooks out and get started on granny squares! This is a skill-building class that lets you take your foundational crochet experience and develop your skills to start working on projects. 

The Granny Square is perhaps the most popular of all crochet patterns and there are hundreds - if not thousands - of varieties. We will start looking at these together in class and you’ll figure out how to change colours, how to join rows, and how to work round-and-round to create your very own granny square project. 

As part of this class, you’ll be shown how to understand a crochet chart or graph, and also how to read a crochet pattern. Once you’ve done your first few rows, you can keep going in class and begin a granny square shawl or blanket, or you can make a pile of smaller granny squares and learn how to join them. 

Once you have these techniques down, you’ll be able to start working on blankets, or more complex patterns like crochet granny square jackets and hats. You’ll be able to try out different yarns and hooks in class, but you’re welcome to bring along your own if you have a particular favourite.
