This stylish jacket is based on the designs of Paul Poiret, once known as ‘The King of Fashion. Poiret established his own house of fashion in 1903. In his first years as an independent couturier, he broke with established conventions of dressmaking and subverted other ones. In 1903, he dismissed the petticoat, and later, in 1906, he did the same with the corset. Poiret made his name with his controversial kimono coat and similar, loose-fitting designs created specifically for an uncorseted, slim figure.
The idea for this garment is taken from Poirets’ designs of the early 1920’s. The loose-fitting style can be created as a glamourous evening jacket using sumptuous jacquard fabrics or rich soft velvet. It could also be created for everyday wear with more casual clothes, using soft fine woollen fabric or needlecord, the possibilities are endless.
The jacket consists of three panels and is fully lined. A contrasting collar is added for even more dramatic effect. It is fastened at the front with a loop and button or can be left loose depending on your preference. This style of garment is extremely comfortable to wear and would be a fabulous edition to any wardrobe.
Maximum of 6 people per course to ensure everyone has enough time with Denny and space to work.
